Ye gods! Now we know what those Ghost Cities in China are for.

Ghost Cities.

Here’s the print article, in the New York Times, from June 15.

China’s Great Uprooting: Moving 250 Million into Cities

Nowhere, in this article, does it talk about how these people will be fed. Over the next 12 to 15 years, 250 million Chinese people will be forced leave the land where they grow their own food. How will China feed its peoples?

This flies in the face of the permaculture solution. We need more villages, not fewer; more locally sourced food, not less. Industrialization, with its mechanization and monocultures, didn’t work. Industrial agriculture poisons air, water and soil, forcing us to spike Nature with more and more poisons just to grow anything at all. And yet monstrous Monsanto man with his Monster drinks and monster attitudes still thinks he’s the boss, in charge of Nature herself! — and can alter her at the DNA level with GMO seeds.

We need to learn from the villagers how to grow our own food in sustainable ways, not forcibly relocate them. We need to love our elders, not throw them away. We need to care for the Earth, not destroy her in the process of trying to feed ourselves.

To give an idea of the scale of what relocating 250 million people means, here’s the video the NYT put out:

  1. It was a NY Times video, but it became “unavailable” a few moments after starting. Sounds a bit like Agenda 21, from the bit I heard.
