WOW! Community builds 40 micro-houses for the homeless in one day

Yesterday I received an email from old friend Lee giving a url for one of the tiny house companies springing up in the wake of our return to common-sense re: how much space we really need in order to live well without robbing Earth of resources needed elsewhere.

No longer is bigger, better. Even our swollen bodies are starting to shrink.

On the tumbleweedhouses website I found a story where three couples are going together to build three tiny homes for themselves. Nice group effort. Rather like “permablitzes” (a group gathering to implement a permaculture design in a single day) are now gathering steam. Yes, like “barn-raisings” of old, people are beginning to join together in common effort to regenerate community in the suburbs . . .

Then, even more exciting to me, this morning, from goodnewsnetwork:

Ingenious Invention for Homeless People Brings Community Together

At one time in his life, after a divorce, Gary Pickering was homeless. Now, Pickering is building small, portable 'micro-houses' for people living on the street.

They’re small, but have many of the advantages of real homes for those looking for respite from the harsh weather.

Community volunteers got together and built 40 of these shelters and they’ll deliver them to wherever the homeless people need them.

Hi, I am a Social Work student at CSU, Fresno. A dedicated few of us are collecting clothing to donate to the homeless for the coming winter months. I saw this report a few months ago and it brought to mind the possibilities that it could bring here. There is an incredibly large population of homeless here in the Central Valley and even just a few of these small homes would do wonders for those in need. Does anyone here know where I can get the building design and plans for this project?
