The video below intrigued me so much that I went to one of its sources, globia.org. And found this:
“The Earth of the 21st century is warming, overcrowded, partly deforested, and more toxic and interconnected than ever. The comforting envelope of the Holocene, which has fostered the birth of civilizations, is now punctured. We collectively rolled over into a new era, which includes its stakes and challenges but also its opportunities and great qualities.
This page is dedicated to exploring this new world in a visual way. Here is the definition more or less impressionistic we propose for the Anthropocene: “A period marked by a regime change in the activity of industrial societies which began at the turn of the nineteenth century and which has caused global disruptions in the Earth System on a scale unprecedented in human history: climate change, biodiversity loss, pollution of the sea, land and air, resources depredation, land cover denudation, radical transformation of the ecumene, among others. These changes command a major realignment of our consciousness and worldviews, and call for different ways to inhabit the Earth.”

While I’m all for educating ourselves visually about global realities, I am newly charged with suspicion about top-down “solutions,” since, no matter how many good ideas they may contain, they can also be so easily transformed into a fascist New World Order, e.g. the way the Tea Party and others, NOT right wing, see the U.N. “sustainable development” program aka Agenda 21. We need to educate ourselves, yes, certainly, to think globally and, with that circumconscious awareness, then focus on acting locally, to harness our grassroots, bottom-up power here, de-centralized, in our communities. In this focus I am guided by a deep trust that we quirky and unique human beings, once released to our full self-awareness and expression, will self-organize into a vast mycellium web that both connects and regenerates.
