Town in Canada aims for zero waste

One of the permaculture principles is zero waste: “There’s no such thing as waste.” Or, “all waste is food.” Check it out here.

If there’s no such thing as waste, then whatever we call, see, and/or act as if it’s “waste” just betrays our lack of either imagination as to how to put that output to productive use elsewhere, or our lack of understanding of the complexity of a particular ecosystem — probably both.

Despite my ego’s p.c. need to see myself as eco-aware, I’m ashamed to say that I still haul a bag of “waste” to the curb for pickup every two months. Mine and all of Bloomington’s “waste” goes “out of sight, out of mind,” hauled off to a nearby town’s burial pit.

Another inspiring video from nextworld.tv.
