Are you wondering how you might articulate your utter outrage at what just happened in the U.S. Senate? Here’s what one friend of mine sent.
Dear Senator ________,
I was disappointed but not surprised that you voted against the bill that would have protected live babies born after attempted abortion. If a baby survives an attempted abortion, it is depraved, sick and diabolical to refuse care to a living human being. Democrats claim they want “healthcare for all” but won’t even protect the most innocent and vulnerable.
I am pro-choice up to 3 months, but I cannot fathom how anyone can proudly support murdering a child after birth. At what age does post-birth “abortion” become illegal? If a mother has postpartum depression and kills her six month old baby, will that be OK, too? I’ve heard numerous OBGYN’s convincingly argue that there is no medical necessity for a late term abortion. An emergency C-section could save both baby and mother. If the mother doesn’t want the child after carrying it for 9 months, let someone adopt it. There are MANY people who would love to have a child but cannot. Are you pro-eugenics or pro-infanticide?
Once a child is born, it’s alive. Some people argue that life begins at conception, but if you cannot at least agree that life begins at birth, then where is your moral compass? Where are your priorities? Planned Parenthood got caught trafficking aborted baby parts. Is this really about commanding a higher price for a live baby? Is this about all the products that use fetal tissue? Do you get pay outs from these companies?
Please explain your reasoning, because I do not see how a birthed child, no longer in its mother’s body would still be considered part of that woman’s body. How is murdering a separate being –a living child– the same as “women’s healthcare”? I am very curious to read your response.
Sincerely,

“…abortion rights supporters, who note that infanticide is already illegal and argue that Sasse’s bill is actually meant to dissuade doctors from performing late-term abortions in the first place
Several medical groups, including the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, the American Medical Women’s Association and the American Public Health Association, also have publicly opposed the bill, saying in a recent letter to senators that it “represents a dangerous government intrusion into private health-care decisions.”
The Republican push to pass these bills follows efforts in New York and Virginia to roll back restrictions surrounding late-term abortions, which represent a small minority of hundreds of thousands of abortions performed in the United States each year. Those abortions, experts say, typically are prompted by concerns for the mother’s health or fetal abnormalities.”

Requiring Democrats to vote for “infanticide” is similar to the GOP tactic of forcing votes to support the “Death Tax” obscuring and oversimplifying decades of tax policy on estates.
The debate is really about late term abortion and GOP should be more honest about that. Their motive seems to be more about gaining political advantage than adding any protections here. Many more infants and children are dying everyday around the world and in this country and I don’t see a ground swell of conservative initiatives to change that.

“A small minority of hundreds of thousands” of people turn out to be serial killers. Does that “small number” make their murder victims any less victims? If a serial killer only murders a handful of people among all the thousands they encounter over the course of their lifetime, does that make those murders OK? If someone survives a murder attempt by a serial killer, should we deny care to that person? At what point does a person become a person if not birth?
The fact that this bill even needed to be presented is appalling. The fact that the Left is trying to spin it as “more about gaining political advantage than adding any protections here” speaks volumes. If infanticide is already illegal, then why are New York, Virginia and now many other states’ attempts to legalize it not a valid concern? Does the fact that other people happen to die in other ways negate reason for concern over legally executing born babies?
Our times sure remind me of WB Yeats:
THE SECOND COMING
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
On a related note – Ann, did you know that this is going on in your state?

There is an all-out war going right now geared towards children, everywhere, of all ages. This stuff needs to be exposed on every level.
Thanks, Tony. I’ll look into it.
