This cartoon that could be applied to any number of industries. I think about how the state and fed are ramming through the contentious construction of I-69 here in Indiana, which will, not incidentally, make it much easier to get into and out of Crane from Indianapolis, where there are many jobs in the killing machine. What’s “Crane”? I just looked it up.
Here’s from the official navy website:
The Crane Division (NSWC Crane), located in Crane, Indiana is a shore command of the U.S. Navy. NSWC Crane is under the Naval Sea Systems Command headquartered in Washington DC. |

The focus of NSWC Crane is harnessing the power of technology for the Warfighter. It specializes in total lifecycle support in three focus areas:

Its main facility is located in south-central Indiana with a detachment in Fallbrook, California. However, NSWC Crane has employees deployed around the world with Warfighters, major sponsors and industry partners. |
Or I think about multi-million dollar grants churning through Indiana University, and wonder which grants are not, somehow, related to the military industrial pharmaceutical complex?
Not even a mile from me, rises a sleek new highrise, the new biotech center for IU.How much of the money to build it is oiled by that same MIP complex? How many state and federal reps are beholden to this complex to get elected and re-elected?
I’ll say it again, how can we continue to live with such contradictions?
