David deRothschild creatively utilized his uber-wealthy status to build a boat from 12,500 plastic bottles and sail it from San Francisco to Sydney across 8000 miles of the Pacific ocean saturated with microscopic bits of plastic. The Plastiki Expedition launched www.theplastiki.com, a website that tracks the multitude of environmental initiatives springing from the original voyage like pure clear water from a polluted sea.
