Re: those spent fuel rods, if you recall, according to Carolyn Baker,
“according to nuclear researcher Christina Consolo, if one of those MOX fuel rods is exposed to the air, one of the 1565, it will kill 2.89 billion people on the planet in a matter of weeks.”
I have no idea whether this startling claim about — let’s call it by its real name, possible near-term extinction — is true. But I do know that removing spent fuel rods from nuclear reactors is always critically dangerous. According to Harvey Wasserman: “Fuel rods are the most lethal substance human beings have ever created.” Here’s a report from nuclear-news.net that says the Japanese are “gambling Armaggeddon.”
Now, as of Wednesday, November 6, removal of the 1565 fuel rods from Reactor 4 at Fukushima has begun. This operation is expected to take through the end of 2015. From komonews.com:
2 fuel rods removed from wrecked Fukushima nuclear plant
The guardian has posted an animated video from the site operator, Tokyo Electric (Tepco), explaining what the process involves and all the safety precautions in place. P.R.? Certainly. And no matter how cynical we may feel about this situation, rather than polarizing against it in horror and despair, we need to support this and all significant attempts to heal this terrible wound to Mother Earth and her Earthlings that, since March 11, 2011, has been spewing enormous amounts of radiation daily into the Pacific Ocean.
Fukushima: animation explains how fuel road removal will happen (video)
This morning I received an email from my friend Ted. He tells me of a meditation process that is beginning for Fukushima, expected to continue until the operation to remove the fuel rods is completed.
Just as the spent fuel rods are destined to be immersed in water, please join other Earthlings in this multidimensional effort to immerse the unfolding tragedy at Fukushima in the miracle of liquid love.
