On our final day with Sean and the kids, Colin and I begin to prepare for the trip back to Indiana, also 18 hours long. This time we will leave at 6 A.M., to get there by midnight (unlike the trip out, when we left at 10:15 AM and got here at 4:15 AM).
The days have been filled with eating, and blogging, and screen time, with desultory discussions between Colin and me on geopolitical matters, Kiera and Drew doing their teenage thing (Drew in the study with his friends, online gaming; Kiera doing mysterious things up in her bedroom), and Sean, yesterday, did one of his marathon bike rides with his group, the Monsters. I think he said 45 miles, a short ride by their standards. Here he goes on his bike with borrowed carbon wheels, having geared up to the max for chilly weather.
And then of course, our daily treks through local woods with the dogs running free. This time we all piled in Colin’s small car (five people, two dogs) and drove to the Acton Arboretum, one mile away. Here’s a map, during our trek there.

Finally, I’ve blogged before on Kiera’s adventures with horses.
Granddaughter Kiera’s scary, true, thrilling, tremendously informative tale: “I had been told that every horse had its wild side. . .”
Her obsession continues, even at age 16. Here’s her latest painting (actually, she tells me, the horse itself is stenciled on. “Took me about an hour to make the stencil”):
Right after showing me the horse, she showed me her creation from that afternoon, a stencilled design for her initials (Kiera Cudmore, or here, Cudmore Kiera!)
