I once visited a floating island made of reeds in Lake Titicaca; it serves as the home of the Uros tribe, and predates the Incas. Here’s one man’s contemporary version, floating on plastic bottles. Can you imagine how many of these islands could be made? An image comes to mind: my shock at the view from the bus window, of a ditch along the road that parallels the Nile, thousands upon thousands of plastic bottles discarded by tourists like me.
