It appears that the theme of “community,” one of my very favorites, is up for today. First, the death of Steven Gaskin, founder of The Farm in Tennessee, then an email from a friend in Seattle referencing a story about experimental communities there —
A Peek Inside Seattle’s Remaining Communes —
— damn! I just peeked inside this article and it looks positively delicious! Unfortunatelly, I’m pressed for time this afternoon, but will devour it this evening, I will I will! — and now, an email message from Jim Schenk, of Imago community in Cincinnati. Jim is hosting a workshop on July 26 with Diana Leafe Christian. Jim: “there may be no one else around with as much knowledge about community.”
I’m going. Any locals want to join me for the trip to Grailsville, Ohio?
Creating Sustainable Urban Communities
an Imago Earthspirit Workshop
with Diana Leafe Christian
9:00 AM to 5:30 PM
The first in a series of workshops on sustainable communities.
Diana: “I want to live in a world filled with wildly successful intentional communities — eco-villages, cohousing communities, housing co-ops, shared group households, and every other kind of community.”
Over the last 20 years Diana has visited more than 120 communities in North America and internationally in order to find out what helps communities get started successfully and function effectively and harmoniously. She interviewed dozens of community founders and long-time community members about what works and what doesn’t work. She lives in community herself, at Earthaven Ecovillage in North Carolina.
To share what she learned she has written two books, Creating a Life Together: Practical Tools to Grow Eco-villages and Intentional Communities and Finding Community: How to Join an Ecovillage or Intentional Community, has offer numerous workshops and consultations, on starting successful new intentional communities, and how communities can become healthy and thriving.
This workshop will focus on living in and creating urban sustainable communities.
“Diana’s workshop was fantastic! She truly is a master at taking complex material and making it simple, plus the way she engages workshop participants is brilliant. . . . she clearly is a master at putting together workshops, teaching, and facilitating.” —Gaya Erlandson, co-founder, Lotus Lodge Community, North Carolina, Sociocracy workshop, Earthaven Eco-village, 2012
