Decoding the “Antikythera mechanism”

The word “dis-aster” means “to turn away from the stars.” Perhaps that’s the problem with contemporary civilization. We are so busy looking down — making, grabbing, attaching, hoarding, guarding, and moving material stuff around — that we don’t even pause to notice the vast invisible cycles within which human life on Earth is embedded, and which affect us collectively. We think we are separate “individuals,” and yet all together we are set adrift, sloshed internally, and usually without conscious awareness, by massive waves in the cosmic sea.

The ancient Greeks, however, did notice. Here’s a story about recent decoding of the function of an ancient mechanism.
