December 21, 2012: first light swirling snow, cancelled plans, one earth, one voice

Winter Solstice: wind whirled snow on screened-in porch . . .

Winter Solstice: wind whirled snow on screened-in porch . . .

I slept in. Didn’t go to Browning Mountain. Doubt anybody did. Blizzard conditions yesterday and much of the night. Schools all closed this morning.

Had trouble with myself last night for deciding not to set the alarm for 5:30 A.M.— until I realized that it would be fruitful to analyze the situation in a four-element way (This is something I’ve never done before. Do others do this?)

The so-called “Draco” storm was a strong manifestation of wind (air) and snow (water). Especially wind! My intense desire to be with earth, especially to be in, on, near sacred sites with earthforms that I do not understand during the end/beginning of the Mayan Calendar at Winter Solstice, would have been satisfied by Browning Mountain’s old old giant stones that appear to have been carved. So air, water, earth, all elements present in this configuration. What about fire? That’s when I had to question, would I personally — only two days past my 70th birthday — have enough personal fire to “battle the elements” in getting there by myself (it appeared that all but one other person had bowed out, and he was coming from a different direction), on snowy, tiny, country roads I had never been on before, leading into wilderness, in the dark? And then to hike up a ridge line at first light in extreme wind and cold and possibly even more snow?

I did not.

This morning, on finally awakening (I was up, interior thrumming, part of the night), I saw this on fb (thanks, Sophia!). Interesting, despite the fact that the TSA has endorsed it. Let go of judgments, Ann. Let go. Let it all in. That’s the point. Remember? One Earth. One Voice.
