David Meets Goliath Department: Pussy Riot and Vermont Farmer

When I returned home from the week in Southern California, I noticed two emails from one of my sisters, both of them concerning the band Pussy Riot’s “punk song” at the altar of a Russian Orthodox Church that got them arrested. Interesting that she should send these; I have a feeling she was reminded of our time in the Catholic Church for the wedding, and the nature of our conversations surrounding it. At one point, in the kitchen of the house we were renting, everybody was talking about some scandal or other, when I broke in, with “Now let’s talk about the Vatican.” Very loud. Got their attention. The confluence between church and state, and the corruption of both, should be on everybody’s mind.

Here’s the latest from the guardian. Putin obviously seeks to put it behind him.

Pussy Riot trial: Vladimir Putin calls for leniency

Meanwhile, on our side of “the pond,” on Fox News, a Vermont Farmer is mad as hell and he’s not taking it anymore. I wonder if this incident will generate the same kind of viral publicity as Pussy Riot did. It sure has all the markers. Drama. Hilarity. Breathtaking chutzpah. And, just like Pussy Riot, point made with nobody killed, nobody hurt.
