Bread and Circuses Department: Taxpayers pay for new NFL stadiums

I remember thinking how wasteful it is that cities which host the Olympics and other World Games build gigantic monuments for those games that, when the games are over, the deserted monuments remain. Brazil especially comes to mind, where 250,000 poor people were evicted to make room for giant stadiums (and their parking lots).

Meanwhile, in this country, lots of NFL stadiums going up, with costs socialized, and profits privatized.

A good example of absurd priorities that reflect our culture of distraction.

Taxpayers Have Spent A ‘Staggering’ Amount Of Money On NFL Stadiums

  1. In Minneapolis, they foisted one of these on us even though we voted NO. The owner could build two of these things out of his own pocket but the taxpayers had to foot the bill. He bought the politicians and made them dance to his tune. And it cost even more than the space mission to Pluto! They were going to call it “The People’s Stadium” but somehow, U$ Bank, which had been fined a hefty sum for fraud and misdeeds, still finagled the money to buy the naming rights to this monstrosity. Recently, a construction worker fell to his death, so I suppose the thing has had its actual blood sacrifice, as well as our energetic sacrifice.

All I can do is give it the finger as I go by it.
