If you’re not outraged at the degradation of the political process in America, not to mention the serious longterm effects of the erosion of ethical values, then you haven’t been paying attention. Two of our most senior and incorruptible pundits, both former high government officials, weigh in, and their conclusion is the same. It’s not just Chris Hedges and the Occupy generation calling for revolution anymore. The elders are now speaking. Will we listen?
This Bill Moyers post is from August 2013. I can only imagine what he’s saying now.
Paul Craig Roberts:
The Collapse of Western Democracy

My guess is that he is perhaps even more outraged at what we have become in the last 3 years. I don’t think that we might have a complete and total collapse of the system we call democracy; I am now convinced that it is inevitable. The time for self-correction has long since passed, I think it is too late for that. We have gone too far. Most American’s are asleep at the wheel, they say they are awake but its only in their imagination – look what we claim to be our most sacred elements of our lives and our country. We like so many fallen civilizations before us, are blaming others for our plight (immigrants, muslims, people of color, people with different ways of being in the world – and the list goes on), creating and waging wars against questionable targets, manipulation of the economy, creating a two class society – the working poor and the wealthy, manipulation of the water and food supply, poisoning of our air supply. Look at past civilizations and see what their leaders did as their societies were crumbling around their feet. It never works. It is as if our country and probably the whole of civilization has drawn the 16th card of the Tarot – the Tower of Destruction.
Yes.
