Oh, if only our Mom, aka Lady Renee, who birthed and reared eight children and who finally died a few years ago at 96, could have watched this video. What would have been her response? I imagine that, after watching intently, she might have straightened up and said something like, “Why did you want me to see this?”
Unless, however, the two of us were alone in the room. In that case, she would have spoken her mind. She always did, despite her “dementia”: said that she felt comfortable around me, because I “respected” her and “listened” to her. “Too much of the time, she continued, “I feel people talking behind my back.”
Happy Mother’s Day to all the Moms in the world, whether or not you ever birthed or reared human children. I don’t know a single woman who has not mothered something, or someone, in her life. That’s what we do, we women. Over and over again, unseen and unsung, we nudge into being nourishing possibilities for the future.
Me? Tomorrow my son Colin, his girlfriend Greta (also a Mom), and I will drive out to Scenic View restaurant, near Lake Monroe, for brunch. Colin: “Pick you up at 8:15, so we can be standing in line by 8:40.” Okay!
