Let’s reiterate what is coming down the pike astrologically: the now forming Saturn/Pluto conjunction, exact in January 2020, is prelude to the first ever Return of Pluto to its own Natal Place in the U.S. chart (ca 2021-2025).

Have you noticed that you can’t really see a process you have been involved in until it’s over? As an astrologer, I look at processes as cycles, noticing them in my own life, and in the lives of others. In every case, the first return of a planet to its own natal place marks a watershed moment: from then on, what had been unfolding unconsciously has an opportunity to become conscious, aware, and thus to “do it differently the second time around.” That goes for cycles of all kinds, and especially those that last long enough to make a huge difference. For example Saturn: 30 years. Most significant of all, Pluto. It’s cycle is 248 years long.

Pluto has to do with the primal processes of death and rebirth. As individuals, we don’t get to live long enough to experience our first Pluto Return. So all our lives, we operate with Pluto more or less unconsciously. However nations do get to experience it, assuming they live more than 248 years. The U.S. is a relatively young nation, compared to those that are ages old, and many are. Its use of power up to this point has been adolescent, strutting its stuff, acting as if whatever it sets in motion does not have unintended consequences. But of course, it does. Blowback exists. If we wonder why so many nations do not trust the U.S., it’s because we have always wielded power wantonly, and constantly. The U.S. has been at war fully 93% of the time since its founding in 1776.

Thus it’s not difficult to see how this coming first ever Pluto Return for the U.S. will play out. The United States is either going to die, break into scattered pieces, or it will successfully die to its old unconscious self and be reborn as a more aware nation, recognizing how its actions DO have consequences. This death/rebirth process will have to do with power. The right use of power. The transformation from centralized top-down empire to polycentric horizontal cooperation. Period. So . . .
