Watch the amazing HBO series Deadwood, for one (fictional?) version of how the “wild west” origins of a small town, Deadwood South Dakota, gradually evolved into a society of laws that, however, was run, underneath, by the same old corrupt gang of (businessmen) thieves. Question: given what’s going down in Oregon now, given gun sales running rampant everywhere, are we now witnessing the Deadwood TV series playing out again, but backwards? Are we devolving from a society of laws into our wild west origins?
