John Trudell: “We need to remember that what happens to the Earth happens to us.”

The video below made me weep.

The passion, the deep, anguished caring in his voice.

Thank you John Trudell.

John has been an eloquent voice for the Earth and for the Indigenous People of the Earth (which is any person who is connected) for many years…. there is a great movie titled Trudell by Heather Rae… it is a movie I saw in numerous forms during the editing process and have watched and shown many times.. always with a lump in my throat, an ache in my heart and a renewed desire to fight on!

  2. This quote comes from the same documentary:

Power is something that emanates from us–human being, human physical being, spirit–and power is about that spirit and about the being and our relationship to the planet, to the earth, to the universe. That’s where our real power connections are. We live in a time where we have been indoctrinated to believe that authority is power. So when we look externally and we see these ones that would feed off us and control us, they have defined power from the material perception, perception of the human, not of the being. So we look at economic systems as being power, but in reality an economic system is basically a system of authority. And we look at military systems as being power, but in reality that’s another system of authority–or religious systems–but these are systems of authority. But we have been programmed into believing that these things are power, and because we have really no influence in these things–no real accessibility to these things–and if we believe they have the power then it doesn’t say much for ourselves. So power is really about our relationship to life.

And this song was my first introduction to him: Look at Us

“the sound of flowers dying carry messages through the wind trying to tell you about balance and your safety”

    1. And is Pluto in Capricorn not the very essence of the destruction and transformation of authority, maybe even finding our own authority?

So timely. Thanks Ann for sharing this, and for the comments from readers. A lot to ponder here.

  3. thank you for song. Unfortunately in my experience, it isn’t just the Christian religion that is hypermaterialistic – I’ve known people in Eastern spirituality who are very, very attached to their possessions and status and lifestyle (which doesn’t go with their religion either, but – culture seems to control more than religiosity) – but I understand John’s anger with Christians – they did abuse native people and justified their dominance over them with religion. Have admired John Trudell (and much of Russell Means’ work and others’) for many, many years.
