Charles Eisenstein: “The system isn’t working for the 1% either. Life is pretty bleak at the top, too. There is no Other in this Revolution of Love”

Eisenstein nails it. Here’s why “demands” are not relevant to Occupy. This revolution is happening below language, below the mind, inside the human heart. One by one, we are moved to re-occupy our hearts. Each time a conditioned, emotionally starved, utterly lonely uniformed cop pepper-sprays, or beats, or clubs another peaceful person, more hearts burst open, cross the line from skepticism to surrender. We are the 100%.

From my notes:

Anything people can articulate can only be articulated within the language of political discourse. And that entire political discourse is already too small. The system isn’t working for the 1% either. Life is pretty bleak at the top, too. The baubles of the rich are a phony compensation for the lose of connection, the loss of intimacy, or meaning.

We live in a money economy where we don’t depend on the gifts of anyone, because we buy everything. So if somebody doesn’t like us, we can just pay someone else to do it. It’s hard to create community when the underlying message is “We don’t need each other.”

Only joint creativity and gifts create intimacy and connection. Each person has a necessary and important gift to give. For a long time our minds have told us that we are imagining things, that it’s crazy to want to life according to what you want to give. This isn’t crazy, this makes sense, this is how to live.

The logic of the heart wants us to be of service. This shift of consciousness is universal, in the 99% and the 1%. Love is the felt experience of the connection to another being. The love knows that more for you is more for me, too. Love is the expansion of the self to include the other.

And that’s a different kind of revolution. There’s no Other in this revolution. Everybody has a unique calling. And that’s what the future is going to be. It’s time to get ready for it, and to make it happen.
