Seven days to go, and counting, U.S. Elections: Corruption and Conscience

I was unable to vote for Trump yesterday. I wanted to, but my hand insisted on writing in Jill Stein. Not because she has any chance; just because I didn’t want to be personally implicated by whatever Trump might do.

Isn’t that ridiculous, to assume my vote counts and that it really matters what I think? Well it does. It counts to myself, and my conscience, my ethical sense, is alive and well.

The alternative would have been to vote in a strategic manner; vote Trump, and hope enough others also vote Trump to bring him in and the U.S. Gov down. Because I think that’s what would happen. Nothing would ever be the same.

Well, I ask myself, what’s wrong with that? The whole thing is so rotten, so riddled through with corruption, that it must be completely dismantled. Check out, for example, this supposed quote, inside the current “poofness” report:

“[From]… A SENIOR ANALYST INSIDE THE FBI… There is enough for Hillary and the entire government to be brought down. People do not realize how enormous this whole situation actually is. Whether she will be indicted or not depends on how much info about others involved gets out, and there are a lot of people involved. The real point of interest is the Clinton Foundation, not the e-mail server. We received the server from Benghazi, then from the server we found data on the Clinton Foundation. Then we realized the situation is much worse than previously thought… which you should just imagine as a massive spider web of connections and money laundering, implicating hundreds of high-level people.

“The ENTIRE Government is involved. My opinion is the entire government is guilty of treason, which is why Hillary’s death would not cease the investigation or prevent further scandals. Many, many people are involved.

The last paragraph above, to me, feels absurd. As if Trump is the white knight, galloping in to save us. Yeah, right, sure. One more (this time demagogic?) “authority figure” from outside slashes his way through the chaos to vanquish the evil one.)

But then, there’s slow death and fast death. Hmmm. . .  In this case, do I prefer slow death? I know I don’t prefer it personally. I hope I can leave this body, when I decide to do so, in a consciously conjured blaze of lightning. But the death of the governmental structure on which so many people depend for their very lives? Several voices inside me collide:

Voice 1. Oh Ann, don’t get dramatic. They depend on it because they’ve been encouraged to think they’re weak, and poor and isolated, and so look to father figure authorities to make things right. But it doesn’t work. It never has and never will. We each need to take charge of our own life.

Voice 2. Well yes, but some are more well equipped than others. And some have advantages to start with. Privileges. Like you, old white woman. (Relatively) rich, highly educated old white woman. You get so damn righteous, from your perch of exceptionalism. Who do you think you are?

From yesterday evening’s research:

First, an astonishing John Pilger article, detailing Clinton’s warmongering through the decades, and how propaganda is spun to keep people uninformed. The collusion of media with government, Pilger asserts, is the real invisible government.

Inside the Invisible Government: War, Propaganda, Clinton and Trump

The same year [2003] soon after the invasion [of Iraq], I filmed an interview in Washington with Charles Lewis, the renowned American investigative journalist. I asked him, “What would have happened if the freest media in the world had seriously challenged what turned out to be crude propaganda?”

He replied that if journalists had done their job, “there is a very, very good chance we would not have gone to war in Iraq.”

It was a shocking statement, and one supported by other famous journalists to whom I put the same question — Dan Rather of CBS, David Rose of the Observer and journalists and producers in the BBC, who wished to remain anonymous.

In other words, had journalists done their job, had they challenged and investigated the propaganda instead of amplifying it, hundreds of thousands of men, women and children would be alive today, and there would be no ISIS and no siege of Aleppo or Mosul.

The attack on Iraq, the attack on Libya, the attack on Syria happened because the leader in each of these countries was not a puppet of the West. The human rights record of a Saddam or a Gaddafi was irrelevant. They did not obey orders and surrender control of their country.

The same fate awaited Slobodan Milosevic once he had refused to sign an “agreement” that demanded the occupation of Serbia and its conversion to a market economy. His people were bombed, and he was prosecuted in The Hague. Independence of this kind is intolerable.

As WikLeaks has revealed, it was only when the Syrian leader Bashar al-Assad in 2009 rejected an oil pipeline, running through his country from Qatar to Europe, that he was attacked.

From that moment, the CIA planned to destroy the government of Syria with jihadist fanatics – the same fanatics currently holding the people of Mosul and eastern Aleppo hostage.

Oh, and remember, films are also “media.”

The Hard and Brutal Truth about Hillary Clinton

Here’s a pundit who says Trump will win, not because of anything except that his “party is not the incumbent this time around.”

Donald J. Trump Will Win

It starts out:

I pointed out in April, 2016, that election probabilities favor the Republican candidate not because of his rhetoric, politics or personality, but because his party is not the incumbent this time around. We have a revolving door “bi-partisan” reality TV show where Democrats and Republicans pretend to be foes. Statistically speaking, it makes no difference what Trump allegedly said about this or that, or how corrupt the blood-soaked Clinton crime family may be. It’s the Republican turn through the turnstile this time, in both White House and House of Representatives.

Finally, go to State of the Nation for a number of fascinating perspectives on both what’s going down and what is to come.

Meanwhile, as we continue to discover the endemic corruption riddling the bloated U.S. Gov, so the ancient conscience-keepers of this great land continue their determined protection of the waters at Standing Rock. Support of all kinds pours in from everywhere. Rallies are held in cities and towns everywhere. And now, it appears that at least one 1%er has recovered his conscience.

  1. Christopher Crockett says:

know that your vote for Stein did, indeed, “count,” Ann.

not that it, alone, will put her Over the Top in the Electrical College (as Sage Homer says:

but simply because, if she should happen to get (a mere) 15% of the vote –**Nation wide** (not just in any state)– the Green Party candidate next time around will be invited to join in the ludicrous “debate” charade in 2020. (along with Tim Kane and The Cruzerator, i’m thinking, esp. if the Dimmoecans don’t win the Senate and/or She Whose Time it Is succumbs to a bullet from a “deranged loner”).

*that’s* the Prize available (or, that was the one potentially available) in this particular cycle.

but, as we have certainly seen, the Greens didn’t quite Rise Up to the Occasion, so 2016 was one of those Turning Points in History at which History just failed to Turn.

iOw, a Perfect Opportunity, utterly Blown.

my guess is that it will be that rather pathetic Moron, Johnson, and the “Libertarian” Party that will be the real winner in this cycle –i can imagine a rather large mass of “conservative” Repuglickums (driven by a social media storm) who simply can’t pull the leaver for The Trumpster –much less for Crooked Hillery– who will be voting Libberterrium (note that he’s actually on the ballot, in Indiana and Dog nose where else).

Which means that the Civil War in the Repuglicum Party which we can (and should) thank Mr. Trump for will result in the formation of two rumps: a Trumpism/Palinesque faction and an Old Guard of true “conservatives” who will take over the Libertarian Party and make an Honest Woeman of it.

as for the notion that “the attack on Iraq and Libya…happened because the leader in each of these countries was not a puppet of the West,” it’s worth noting that both the Odious Saddam and his psychopathic twin Qaddafi started out their illustrious careers as “assets” recruited by the C.I.A. (Saddam recruited from the cafés of Cairo in 1965, as i under stand it) –though the point that they were both Taken Out because they Got Off of the Reservation (foolish Saddam tricked into thinking that he got the Green Light to go into Kuwait from April Gillespie, George I’s ambassador) is certainly true enough.

just trying to add a bit of Nuance.
