Guy McPherson’s DOOMER message — in cartoons

McPherson appends his own message to existing cartoons.

The Message in Cartoons

Here are the first three. Go to the link for the rest. There are a lot of them; some are laugh out loud funny; most are also excruciating.

(BTW: In the second cartoon, Homo Callidus means Man the Clever — clearly a more accurate descriptor than homo sapiens, Man the Wise).)

Human folly, according to McPherson, results from constructing civilization on top of nature rather than co-existing with, or within her, as nomadic peoples do. He’s not alone. Remember Daniel Quinn’s Ishmael?

So why do humans make This Crucial Choice to Cultivate the Land? “After decades of debating that question, researchers are further than ever from resolving the issue.”

And, if McPherson is correct, the answer may soon be moot. Is he correct? I tend to assume that no matter how “accurate” and “predictive” our MAPS, they are never, ever identical with the TERRITORY. I.e., Science is not god and Nature remains a mystery — as does the future.
