Old Zoning Laws and New Realities: An example from Hartford, Connecticut

As one who, in our experimental life in the founding two-house/six person pod of the Green Acres Neighborhood Ecovillage, regularly butts up against ancient zoning laws that don’t fit new and pressings needs of a changing environment, I thoroughly enjoyed both the following story and the Hartford Courant’s creative editorial on the broohaha it covered, only one day later. After all, as the editorial points out, in an era of smaller families — and I would add, downsizing and simplification — how WILL we fill all those gigantic houses built in yesteryear?
