Three Pussy Riot supporters staged a demonstration in a German cathedral on Sunday and now face criminal charges for their acts. At least three people showed up to cathedral in Cologne on Sunday morning wearing masks and carrying banners that read, “Free Pussy Riot and all prisoners,” RT News agency reports.
The protesters were quickly removed from the scene, arrested, and have been taken in for questioning. None of the activists resisted arrest, though a video of the protest that surfaced online shows many members of the protest being dragged out of the cathedral rather forcibly. The serving Bishop, Heiner Koch, reportedly watched the protest quietly and after the demonstrators left, asked that the congregation pray for Pussy Riot and the Russian people.
The protesters could face up to three years in prison for disrupting a religious service, under German law. According to the Moscow Times, the protesters face further questioning before the prosecutors decide whether or not to press charges.
