Video: 500 years of women in western art

Watching this beautiful video of women’s faces morphing into one another with closed lips and very little smiling, I am struck by how the portraits remain very similar to one another — until the 20th century, when “abstraction” suddenly fractured society’s seemingly eternal, archetypal, iconic view of Woman.
