Claudia Kimball: Poem, for America . . .

My dear friend Claudia Kimball has brought tears to my eyes with her comment on the Interdependence Day post. You may “feel similarly.”

She writes:

I went to a poetry fest here on Vashon Island. A poet, Stormey Webber conducted a workshop where she gave us a bunch of words and asked us to select some and repeat some for a poem. I found that some words quickly arranged themselves for me. I believe many of us may feel similarly.

I want to remember
America
the dream of America
of America
dreaming America

I want to remember
love
the dream of love
dreaming
of love dreaming
Me
of love dreaming
Us
of love dreaming
You
of love dreaming
America

In the face of its
oblivion
I will remember
to remember
the regrets of its awakening souls
