Shifting “cynicism” to the new energy

In this new world we’re creating and experiencing we will discover many moments to bring the available wholeness and love to old ways or habits of life. I thought it would be fun to start putting the old and the new side by side, for in doing so, wow — is the way of love obvious!
This morning I was observing my response to cynicism and these two quotes to me show the old and the new side by side . . .
Old energy perspective:
“I think we too often make choices based on the safety of cynicism, and what we’re lead to is a life not fully lived. Cynicism is fear, and it’s worse than fear; it’s active disengagement.” Ken Burns
New energy perspective:
“Most cynics are really crushed romantics: they’ve been hurt, they’re sensitive, and their cynicism is a shell that’s protecting this tiny, dear part in them that’s still alive.” Jeff Bridges
It’s pretty obvious which view opens the heart and flows compassion, gentleness and humor toward ourselves and others. I’m not saying the old energy quote isn’t speaking to some truth, but it’s missing the love and compassion of the bigger picture most of us are tuning into.
Today, I intend to shift more fully into the new energy by realizing that cynicism is really just protecting a heart that like all hearts, feels best open and flowering . . . and to be like the indiscriminate sunlight — just offering nourishment through my warmth and love.
